What is the JLPT or Japanese-Language Proficiency Test?
The Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) was started in the country of Japan and has been active since 1984 across the globe, making its evergreen presence in Asian countries including India.

JLPT is a standardized criterion-referenced test to evaluate and certify the proficiency skills of the
Japanese language of non-native learners of the Japanese language.

The Japanese language proficiency test covers Japanese language knowledge, reading skills, and

listening skills. In Japan, It is being administered by the JEES (Japan Educational Exchanges and
Services), while the J.F. (Japan Foundation) administers overseas tests. The JLPT examination is

1) From JLPT examinations one can earn points for preferential treatment for immigration to Japan.

One can earn 15 points for N1 level and 10 points or level N2 under the Japanese government’s
criteria. If a student has a total score of 70 points or higher, they will receive preferential treatment at
immigration.

3) N1 level of JLPT is mandatory for medical practitioners licensed overseas who want to take

What are the JLPT exam Levels?
Earlier, The JLPT comprised four levels (N1, N2, N3, N4,). The revised JLPT exam pattern was introduced in 2010 when new level was set for the exams, and a fifth exam level was added in the test. The level N5 and N4 replaced the old level N4 and N3 test, respectively.
Level N3 is a new addition. The difficulty level is assumed halfway between the old level 3 and 2. N2 and N1 are the same as the old level N2 and N1 exam.
At present, The JLPT consists of five levels (N1, N2, N3, N4, N5). In which the lowest level is

considered as N5, and the most difficult and highest level is considered as N1. They are valid for life,
awarded and recognized across the globe.

What is JLPT Exam pattern in India?

expert, the position requires candidates to be proficient in the Japanese language. To prove their

Registration Fees for JLPT (per Applicant) varies between Rs. 1,000 to 1,500. The fee for the 2019

JLPT Exam in India is payable through the online process through the JLPT websites of respective
centers. Unlike other Foreign language proficiency tests such as DELF, IELTS, DELE, ‎Goethe-Zertifikat
, TEF, etc. The exam fees for JLPT is quite affordable and low as compared to other foreign languages.

What are the exam dates for JLPT in India?
JLPT is organized twice a year (on the first Sunday of July and December) in Japan and selected

countries, including India, and once a year in other regions (on the first Sunday of December).

The application form for July JLPT test is released in March until late April and for December's test,

the application form is released in September. The upcoming JLPT exam is on 1st December 2019
